President McAleese has hosted a garden party at Áras an Uachtaráin to honour volunteers throughout the island of Ireland.
Addressing 350 guests representing over 40 voluntary groups, the President said, ‘In this very special European Year of Volunteering, I am particularly delighted to have this opportunity to invite you here to say thank you for all the work you do and to acknowledge the dedication, commitment, selflessness and active citizenship that singles out each and every one of you here today as a special and vital member of your community.’
Our local community was represented (with honors) by founding members of the Club, Anthony Connolly & Benny Monaghan. As well as their association with our club both these great men have a long tradition of volunteering & social enterprise throughout the parish in many fields.
We would like to add our voice of congratulations to both Anthony & Benny, this recognition truly is well deserved.
