The Annual Donnelly Cup held by Killyclogher St Marys/ Cappagh GAA for the primary schools in the parish took place on Friday at Ballinamullan. There was over 120 children participating which is a credit to the teachers and coaches who put so much time and effort into promoting Gaelic games in the schools and throughout the parish. The skill, determination and most importantly the sportsmanship demonstrated by all today ensures a promising future for our club and GAA in the parish of Cappagh.
Donnelly Cup Final: Omagh Integrated v St. Mary’s Killyclogher B
The showpiece event did not disappoint as this turned out to be a fantastic final. The game was end to end with each defence on top throughout the final. However it was Killyclogher B captained by John McSorley who prevailed by the narrowest of margins. The performance of the Killyclogher B team was a credit to the players as they gelled together throughout the competition to claim an unexpected victory. This was a lesson to any young player that no matter what team you are on whether it is an A or B team that if you work hard success will follow. Omagh integrated must be commended for their performance throughout the competition. This was only there second year in the competition and to reach the Donnelly Cup final was a great achievement. They must also be commended for there sportsmanship at the final whistle.
Centenery Cup Final: Killyclogher A v Recarson A
These two teams have contended the last number of Donnelly Cup finals with Recarson coming out on top. Today in the Centenary Cup final it was Killyclogher A captained by Rory Cunningham who prevailed. The Killyclogher A team overcome an earlier defeat in the competition and produced an excellent display in the final and ran out deserving winners. Recarson, who were reigning champions, produced a number of great performances throughout the competition and can be proud of the manner in which they defended the title.
Centenery Shields Final: Christ the King v Gortnagarn A
This proved to be the closest final of the day with both teams locked together at the full time whistle. It took extra time to separate the teams with Gortnagarn A winning out by a couple of points. This was the first time in the competitions history that a final has gone to extra time which made Gortnagarn captain Cathal Mcmenamin and his team mates ‘extra’ proud. Christ the King competed well throughout the competition and should be proud of there overall performance.
Cappagh Shield: Recarson B v Gael Scoil na Crann
Again this final was keenly contested. The determination of both teams ensured a great final. It was Gael Scoil captained by Caolan Kelly who won out by a few points. There motto for the final was ‘Yes we can’ – Barrack Obama. Recarson put up a commendable performance in the final and during the group section.
Ballinamullan Shield: Mountfield v Gortnagarn B
This final saw the only girls team in the competition lose out narrowly to Mounfield. The girls were a credit as they suffered some heavy defeats but continued to compete well as they produced a good performance in the final. Mountfield were captained by Fionn McElduff. Fionn and his teamates worked hard throughout and were deserving winners of the Ballinamullan Shield.
