John’s Day 2025 – The Gaels of our club gathered together on Saturday to remember John Rafferty.
A day of events were organised to remember a young player and friend lost tragically at a young age.
Proceedings began with a fun morning for youth members of the club, allowing for games under the guidance of John’s former team mates. Covering all aspects of the GAA and more, the coaching was enjoyed by the many hundreds that took part. The morning finished off with a colour run and early morning Ice Cream treat.
The morning session was followed up with fierce competition as clubs from across Tyrone battled it out to get their hands on the “John Rafferty” Cup. Many friends of John represented their various clubs across Tyrone with pride and determination until only two clubs were left. Loughmacrory were victorious in the end beating the holders and home club, Killyclogher.
Felix and Roisin Rafferty where on hand to present the cup to the winning captain, Dara Curran. Ronan Fox was also presented with the player of the tournament award. Before the presentation, John’s No. 2 Jersey was presented to John’s parents. The jersey will go on display in the clubrooms for visitors and club members to see and remember John.
The evening was rounded off with entertainment in the Village Inn where many fond memories of a brilliant young man where shared by a club that still grieves for the loss of one of their own. His legacy lives on in every ball that was kicked, every tackle that was made and every point that was scored. And most of all in every smile that was smiled on a very poignant occasion.
