Our Reserves Are COUNTY CHAMPIONS!

Well done to our mens reserve team who won the Tyrone Senior Reserve Knock-Out competition 2021 tonight in Loughmacrory – a historic first for our club.

A warm and clammy evening saw a hectic start with Pomeroy scoring a point straight from the throw-in but in the next move, a long ball into Oran Toal, resulted in a goal for Killyclogher.

Three unanswered points from Ben Armstrong, Joe McGurk and a Marc Flanagan free saw our men race into a 1-03 to 0-01 lead after just eight minutes.

Pomeroy replied with a point but Joe McGurk scored at the other end after eleven minutes.

Pomeroy got the last three points of the half leaving the half-time score – Killyclogher 1-04 Pomeroy 0-05.

Marc Flanagan scored a free two minutes into the second half but Pomeroy responded with two more points and a goal and at that stage the game was in the melting pot.

After the water break, Killyclogher hit a hot streak – Marc Flanagan boomed a ’45 over the bar, Fergal Meenagh and Oran Toal got two more points and Marc Flanagan got our second goal after 24 minutes to put us on our way to victory.

Pomeroy scored a late point but the final score of the evening came from a long-range effort from Ben Armstrong.

Final score – Killyclogher 2-09 Pomeroy 1-07.

Scorers: Marc Flanagan 1-03 (2f, 1 ’45), Oran Toal 1-01, Ben Armstrong 0-02, Joe McGurk 0-02, Fergal Meenagh 0-01

History-making captain, Sean McGowan, accepted the trophy on behalf of his team from Tyrone CCC Secretary, Michelle Cox. In a fine acceptance speech, wise beyond his years, Sean paid tribute to finalists Pomeroy, hosts Loughmacrory, our seniors for driving them on in training, missing players Cormac McGettigan and John McSorley and to the massive preparatory work carried out by Chrissy Gorman and his management team. It was also fitting that Sean paid a special tribute to Tommy Nugent – a man who meant so much to this group of players.

A huge maith sibh and comhghairdeas to our reserve players and management from everyone in the club. We are extremely proud of you all.
