We had no draw for Lottsodoo this week as we cancelled our Bingo as a mark of respect to Anthony Connolly, our Bingo co-ordinator.
There will be two draws next Monday night. Death and Anthony seem so far apart because he was so full of life, so full of the joys of life. The big smile, the warm greeting and the friendly words. That was Anthony. A real gentleman. Although many an opposing forward unlucky enough to get in Anthony’s way as he charged out of the square with the ball tucked safely under his arm and the front bucket down, might not use the word gentle.
Seriously, Anthony lived life to the full and was happy in the company of people. He loved the stories, the banter and the craic. Anthony was a whole-hearted footballer and enjoyed success at both county and club level. He also managed our club teams, senior, reserve and youth, and continued to be a good committee man.
In his fundraising for club, parish and charities he was enthusiastic with his efforts and generous with his time and money. He also gave good support to our hurlers, handballers, ladies footballers and was a great man for Scór. He welcomed visiting teams to Ballinamullan.
Born and reared in Dromore, he was always proud of his roots and was just as proud of Killyclogher. In the first few years after his marriage he played for Newtownstewart and Omagh before coming to live in Killyclogher and getting totally involved in the club. It is as a Dromore and Killyclogher man that he will be remembered. We often joked about the blue blood in his veins.
He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and especially by his long-time friend, companion and wife Bridie. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam.
