Club Notes: August 14th

Winning numbers in the Lottsodoo were 7, 8, 18, 21, 27 and eleven winners each won £10. The main jackpot remains at £5,000 for next week’s draw which takes place as usual at the Bingo in the Parish Centre on Monday night.

Tomorrow, Friday 16th August, is the big day for our popular Annual Golf Classic. A very big thank you to our sponsors O’Neills Sportswear, McElholm & Co Chartered Accountants and TC Autos, and to all those who have sponsored Tee Boxes.

On Sunday last our Reserve Footballers conceded early goals to Omagh and were always chasing the game but they did put in a strong effort in the second half. Our Senior Footballers won by the narrowest of margins, 0-10 to 1-06, but were fully deserving of the full League points thanks to a good team performance.

This weekend is County Final weekend for Hurling with the Junior and Senior Finals in Healy Park. Our Senior Hurlers were unfortunately beaten in the Semi Final last night by Strabane Shamrocks.

Our U14 Girls were unfortunately defeated in the Championship Final last Saturday but can be rightly proud of a successful year where they picked up the Féile and League titles.

Our U16 Footballers play Omagh at Ballinamullan tonight, Wednesday, at 7:30pm and play Owen Roe’s away on Saturday at 4:00pm. All support welcome.

Our U16 Hurlers are at home to Lisbellaw on Monday evening at 7:30pm.

The Club Merchandise shop will be open tomorrow night, Thursday, at Ballinamullan between 7:00 and 8:00pm.

Darren McBrearty was laid to rest on Saturday and out thoughts are with his family circle and especially his brother Paul who served as Secretary of our Hurling Club. A former Footballer Malachy Knox died suddenly at the weekend and we extend sympathy to his family circle. Mrs Agnes Monk (Sunnycrest), who enjoyed a very long life, was buried on Monday. The family connection, through the Raffertys, with the GAA in our Parish goes back to the successful team of the 1930s. On Monday we were stunned to learn of the death of Tony Leonard. We sympathise with the family circle who have a long history of support for the GAA in Cappagh. The McCaul family connection with the GAA in the Parish goes back to the 1930s. There is still an active participation with the present Club and we sympathise with them all on the death of John.
