In almost perfect conditions, with Ballinamullan in superb condition, the minor girls made their first competitive outing of the season on Saturday morning against Errigal Ciaran.
The girls battled hard from start to finish and deservedly came out on the right side of a 2 06 to 3 02 score line.
This game ebbed and flowed for the full 60 minutes with the result in the balance right up to the final whistle. Errigal opened the scoring with an early point, this was followed by a couple of well taken Cappagh scores. Errigal then hit the first goal of the game but the girls dug deep and some great team work saw them go in at half time leading by 1 point (0 5 to 1 01).
Early in the second half the tide turned in Errigal’s favour when the hit 1 01 without reply, but the Cappagh girls kept their composure, steadied the ship and took control of the game. Two second half goals from Emma McAleer and Clodagh McCartan put Cappagh into a 4 point lead going into the last 5 minutes. Errigal were then awarded a penalty but a fine save and clearance from Bronwyn Kelly kept Cappagh in control. The drama continued when in the dying minutes Errigal scored another goal to leave the bare minimum between the sides, but that was to be the last score of the contest.
Next up for the girls is an away match to Omagh on Sunday evening, at 4.30PM, venue not yet confirmed but likely to be St. Patrick’s Park (behind fire station) – all support welcome.
After the Tyrone Donegal match, why not make your way from Healy Park to support your club.
