Cappagh U16 girls followed in the footsteps of the senior men by making it through to the championship semi final after an impressive 4.09 to 2.01 victory over Clann na gael at Ballinamullan on Saturday morning.
From start to finish Clann na gael struggled to contain the fire power up front, but the platform for this victory was based on the tireless work of our defence and mid field. Playing into a stiff breeze the defence was outstanding, holding Clann na Gael scoreless for the entire first half. Superb passing, composure on the ball and hard work throughout the field laid the foundation for this performance and despite playing against the strong wind the girls still went in at the break leading 1.02 to no score.
In the second half the girls the girls continued where they left of in the first half, tenacious defending, teamwork, relentless support play, top class finishing and excellent goal keeping meant that there was no way back for Clann na gael. With the wind at their backs the forwards found their range and scored an impressive 2.08 in the second half.
The girls can now look forward to a championship semi final against Omagh, on Tuesday 11th sept. at 6.45PM.
Next up for the girls is training on Monday 6.30 to 7.30 followed a league meeting with Omagh on Wednesday night.
