Killyclogher 0-11 Derrylaughan 0-08
Our Men’s Senior team are through to the Semi Finals of the SFC but had to withstand a spirited fightback from Derrylaughan in Healy Park last night.
Killyclogher got off to a flier and were three points up after ten minutes with points from Leo Meenan and Mark Bradley (2). Derrylaughan responded with two points to bring the deficit to one but Killyclogher replied with a booming Simon O’Neill free. The remainder of the half was all Killyclogher with further points from Mark Bradley, Leo Meenan and another Simon O’Neill free. The Killyclogher defence was clearing all Derrylaughan attacks with great reading of the game by Eoin Bradley and Niall Bradley combined with fast counter-attacking half backs. With the Killyclogher midfield of Ryan McAleer and Conall McCann also dominant the Blues went into half time leading 0-7 to 0-2.
The second half started according to plan with an impressive Gary Wallace point from some distance after a break from half back and Killyclogher appeared to be cruising. The Kevin Barry’s were not reading the script however, and they replied with a point a minute later. Mark Bradley responded for Killyclogher but Derrylaughan then went on to score three unanswered points. The momentum was firmly with the loughshore men now but a thunderous long range free from Simon O’Neill swung things back in the St Mary’s lads favour. Sean O’Kane was introduced and the fresh legs took some pressure off. However, Derrylaughan then went on to score two points leaving it 0-10 to 0-08 with ten minutes left. They also had a goal chance which was fantastically saved by Mark O’Kane.
Once again, Simon O’Neill scored a vitally important point to break the Derrylaughan momentum and put three points between the teams. Killyclogher impressively protected this lead especially from Conall McCann who bravely won a 50/50 ball (injuring himself in the process) to keep possession.
The Semi Final draw will take place next weekend.
