Our Men’s Senior Team are through to the next round of the SFC but we certainly did not have it easy against the Wolfe Tones of Kildress in Loughmacrory last night.
Killyclogher started brightly and the young team, which contained several Championship debutants, were winning plenty of ball in midfield and getting good direct ball into the forwards who certainly looked like they could pick off scores.
It was tit-for-tat in the first fifteen minutes, three points each. Killyclogher’s scores coming from Simon O’Neill (2) and James Carlin.
The rest of the first half was all Kildress. The Wolfe Tones scored 1-3 without reply until Conor Hegarty popped up with a point just before half time. Kildress replied with another point and Leo Meenan scored the last point of the half. Killyclogher had two good goal chances in the first half but found themselves down 1-6 to 0-5.
Killyclogher came out in the second half aided with a stong breeze down the field. Mark Bradley fired over a trademark point and then Emmett McFadden levelled things with a rasper of a shot into the top corner of the net from considerable distance. All square.
Kildress replied with two points but thanks to Leo Meenan and Mark Bradley points, Killyclogher were level again. Kildress had a goal chance wonderfully saved by Mark O’Kane and the rebound was superbly blocked by Eoin Bradley.
Conall McCann was introduced to the match and one of his first jobs was to nonchantly strike over a 45 off the ground to put Killyclogher into the lead. Points followed from Leo Meenan and Simon O’Neill.
Fulltime score: Killyclogher 1-11 Kildress 1-8. This young team of adventurers had shown maturity and character beyond their years to never panic and stage an impressive come-back.
Scorers: Emmett McFadden 1-0, Simon O’Neill 0-3, Leo Meenan 0-3, Mark Bradley 0-2, James Carlin 0-1, Conor Hegarty 0-1, Conall McCann 0-1.
