The Killyclogher/Cappagh Golf Classic 2009
After a nervous wait on the inclement weather, Friday the 21st of August would turn out to a special day for all the golfers who took part. Club man and current Omagh Golf Club Captain, John Wallace said ‘it looked like we might be rained off but the greens keepers and staff worked through the night to ensure the course was playable’.
And playable it was, forty five teams took part with a first tee time of 9am right through to the final team driving off at 5 in the evening. Apart for a few odd showers the day went brilliantly and the atmosphere on the course was matched only by the atmosphere in the Clubhouse; where late into the evening the all important prizes were handed out.
The overall team prize, with a score of 105 points went to, Niall McKenna, David Beggs, Eoghan McKenna & Paul Sweeney.
Second with a score of 100 poionts were C Daly, S McCartan, B McCartan & S McGlone
Narrowly pushed into third place (after a countback) were M McGinn, J McGinn, S McGinn & G McGinn also with 100 points.
And fourth with a total of 99 points R Daly, J Kelly, D Meenan & R McCartney.
The ladies winners who em massed 83 points were C McGuckin, G McCarron, D Duddy & S Anderson
The very competitive ‘Nearest the Pin’ on holes 13 & 17 were narrowly won by Matt Swift & Paul McGlone.
The Longest Drive was struck by Carl ‘Francie Bellew’ Donnelly with his monster of a shot on the 16th fairway.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank our sponsors & to everyone who took part and made the day such a ‘Classic’…
Next year our event moves to Newtownstewart Golf Club were another Club man, Luke Donnelly will be Captain.
See you next August!!!
