Our U14 hurlers were beat on Friday evening (3rd) by Strabane Shamrocks in Ballinamullin. The match was in doubt right up to start time but was played in great spirits in perfect conditions.
Cappagh lined out without a few regulars because of holidays but started the game very well and matched Shamrocks in the opening 20 minutes. Stephen Mullan was in great form at midfield and scored all but one free awarded in the first half.
Shamrocks ended the half strongly but Cappagh drove on well in the second half with P.T. Cunningham setting up Sean Fox for a super ground stroke goal. With our boys trying hard and great defensive displays from Ciaran Carlin, Matthew Sweeney, Eoghan Winters and Ronan Quinn, Strabane had to fight hard but in the end the opposition finished well and ran out deserving winners.
Niall Daly ran well at midfield and Patrick O’Neill, Michael Mullin and Mark Carroll tried hard up front. With 10 of the starting 15 underage next year this was a great effort by all the boys.
The future of hurling in our parish looks very bright indeed. Congratulations to all involved, players, coaches parents and supporters.
