Cappagh Ladies did their parish proud last night in a thrilling encounter against Dromore at Greencastle.
The match itself was end to end stuff; with both teams slow to start, the first half picked up pace and finished all square. The second half was a tense affair, after conceding two goals the Cappagh girls fought back to draw the scoreline with a high pressure free in the dying seconds of the half. Both teams and management agreed to extra time and played the tie out to a conclusion.
The crowd that filled the stand witnessed both teams trade scores during the first 10 minutes of extra time which again finished with both teams level pegging.
Injuries crept into both teams during the second half of extra time, and as the final whistle drew ever closer St Dympnas intermediate experience saw them edge to victory by a mere 2 points (2-11 to 0-15).
The club would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the entire squad and management for all their commitment and dedication.
Friday saw the end of the Cappagh Club Tyrone Summer Camp for another year. Once again the Camp was a great success and we would like to thank the boys & girls who took part, the coaches and all the parents for their help.
Our club had the honour of being one of the hoast venues for the first ever Ulster U16 9-a-side Hurling Blitz. The event had seen a large number of clubs withdraw in the week of the event with only 26 teams in total from all over the provence taking part. So it was a great to see our club as one of the playing teams.
We hosted Eoghain Rua (Derry) , Derrynoose (Armagh) and Lisnaskea (Fermanagh). Although missing a few of our regular 16 year olds the young boys on the day put up great performances and competed well with all teams. Eoghain Rua and Derrynoose qualified for the finals next Saturday.
The team was, Pauric O’Neill, Paul Hilly, Aiden O’Neill, Stephen Mullan, Michael Mullan, Tiernan Hughes, Matthew Sweeney, Jack Bevin, Ciaran McCance and Ronan Quinn.
A big thank you was received on the day from the Ulster Councils representitive and from the visiting teams in particular very impressed with the great playing surfaces.
Also a big thank you to Mary and Owen Roe O’Neill who looked after the teas.
We host one of the divisions of the first Ulster 9-a-side U16 hurling blitzs this Saturday 3rd July in Ballinamullin with a 12.00pm start. Players to be at the clubrooms for 11.30am.
Our U12 hurlers played their last blitz before the summer holidays hosted by Dungannon Eoghain Ruadh on Saturday 12th June. The boys enjoyed a good days hurling and played 6 games against various Tyrone teams and a number from Antrim and Down. The boys played well and competed throughout. A big thank you lead coach Brian McGurk and the various parents who helped with the transport and mentoring the sides on the day.
