Thursday evening saw the first of the Junior Championship semi-finals when Cappagh and Donaghmore met on the open pitch in Greencastle. The game started of slowly with Donaghmore taking an early lead, but it wasn’t long until the Cappagh girls got into their rhythm with some great scores from half forward Teri McCusker, who in total scored 5 points on the night.

The Cappagh girls worked hard yet again with some great performances all over the field. Goalkeeper Paula Quinn cleared her lines on several occasions when goal opportunities arose for Donaghmore, she was helped out in defense by some solid play from full back Naomi McAnualla, however the whole full back and half back lines worked well as a unit, coming forward from defense with some great play. Goals in the first half by mid-fielder Tracy Wallace and corner forward Steph McGinn gave Cappagh a 2-07 to 0-05 lead at the break.

Cappagh’s inspirational captain Clodagh Poyntz took the game by the scruff of the neck at the start of the second half with a great exhibition of scores and she finished with an incredible 11 points to her name. Both teams were momentarily reduced to 14 players in the second half when two yellow card cautions merited two 10 minute stints in the sin-bin for each player, during this period Donaghmore scored a goal from the penalty spot which reduced Cappagh’s lead. The lead was then reduced further by a second Donaghmore goal in quick succession.

However this was the closest Donaghmore were to come, as when it was needed the Cappagh forwards came up trumps with some fine scores to settle any nerves there may have been and went on to finish the game on a score line of 2-17 to 2-08.

Overall this was a very solid Cappagh performance which sees Ciaran Carland’s Cappagh Ladies march on to the County Final in August.

Subs used: M Keenan for E Wallace, A Porter (0-01) for S Patterson and M Martin for M Sweeney.

Gortin was the venue for the Championship encounter between Cappagh and Kildress on Thursday evening. The game was played in glorious conditions and it was the Cappagh girls who rose to the occasion and provided some great football.

The ladies in blue played well all over the field, they built from the back with some inspirational play in defence from full back Naomi McAnulla. The dynamic duo of Grainne McGread and Tracy Wallace in mid-field made darting runs forward and caused the Kildress defense all sorts of trouble. Adding to that, there was a typical captains performance from centre half forward, Clodagh Poytnz, who finished the game as top scorer, with 2-4 to her name. Clodagh spearheaded the Cappagh attack which inspired the other forwards, including Teri McCusker, who on her senior championship debut finished the night with hall of 3 points.

Overall this was a great team performance, a performance from which the Cappagh girls excelled all over the pitch! We wish them the best of luck as they now move forward to the semi-final which will be played next weekend (date, time & venue to be confirmed).

Cappagh U14's 2009
This is a replay of the U13 semi-final from 2008, and just like then, the Cappagh boys go in as the ‘under-dogs.’ The game itself is scheduled for a 2pm throw-in and will be played in Beragh.

Donaghmore have so far been unbeaten in all League and Championship games, and they always draw a large support. This is an appeal to all our Killyclogher/Cappagh followers – we need you, WE REALLY NEED YOU. Please come out and support these lads. That “16th man” could be all that’s needed to carry the boys over the line.

Venue : Beragh

Time : 2pm
